Bayreuth Festival in 2021: There will be no onstage chorus in the Festspielhaus due to Covid-19 precautions; they will perform live in a separate location and be piped into the hall. 2021 productions: Der fliegende Holländer (new production, conductor Oksana Lyniv, director Dmitri Tcherniakov); Die Meistersinger; and Tannhäuser.
Other Bayreuth news: The Wagner Scholarship Foundation, which organizes the program for the Bayreuth Stipendiates, announced that the Stipendiates may be able to see only one performance as the Foundation will receive fewer tickets. This is due to the fact that fewer seats will be available in the Festspielhaus. Official announcements will be made in January.
The new production of the Ring cycle scheduled for 2020 has been postponed to 2022.
