SUMMARY:Neuschwanstein Tour for Wagner Enthusiasts
DESCRIPTION:“Neuschwanstein is Wagner in stone — Wagner is Neuschwanstein in tone.” \nThis special tour is led by Dr. Thomas Launius\, whose background in mythology\, storytelling\, and opera gives him a unique perspective on Neuschwanstein as “Wagner in stone.” Dr. Launius has led over 250 tours to the castle in the past six years and has received more than 1\,000 five-star reviews\, becoming one of the most highly regarded Neuschwanstein guides working on the mountain today. Many society members will remember Dr. Launius from his lecture in Bayreuth last August on Wagner’s Parsifal\, which was warmly received. \nThis tour is designed specifically for Wagner enthusiasts. It offers special insight into: \n\nhow Wagner’s medieval sources are depicted in the murals and symbolism of the castle\nhow Ludwig II shaped Neuschwanstein using Wagnerian dramatic principles\nwhy the castle functions as a kind of architectural opera\n\nParticipants will come away with a deeper understanding of both Wagner and Ludwig II — even if they have visited the castle before. \nItinerary (All Day Experience) \nSaturday\, August 8\, 2026 \n8:30 AM — Meet in Munich \nWe meet at München Hauptbahnhof and take a short S-Bahn ride to connect with our main train. \n9:00 AM — Train to Füssen (First Class) \nWe travel in the comfort of the first-class compartment. (Dr. Launius will provide Wagner-focused context before and after the interior tour.) After the guided tour\, we will have additional time to explore and take photos. \n4:00 PM — Return to the village \nWe descend and enjoy time in Hohenschwangau. \n4:45 PM — Taxi back to Füssen \nPrivate taxi back to the train station. \n5:20 PM — Return train to Munich (First Class) \nTime to relax and reflect on the day. \n7:30 PM — Arrive back in Munich \nReturn to München Hauptbahnhof. \n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n\nWhat’s Included: \nThis is an intimate small-group experience\, limited to six participants\, and includes: \n\nall train travel (first class)\nprivate taxi transfers in Füssen/Hohenschwangau\nall castle admission tickets\nthe full day guided experience with Dr. Launius\n\nParticipants only pay for: \n\nmeals and beverages\npersonal shopping\n\nGuest Expectations: \nParticipants should be comfortable with: \n\nwalking approximately ½ mile over mostly level ground\nbrief uphill walking\nstairs inside the castle\n\nCost and Reservation \n$399 per person\, limited to six participants; advance reservation is required.  \nRegistration for this tour will close on March 15 2026 at 12:00 noon ET\, after which remaining spaces cannot be guaranteed. SUMMARY:Rienzi in HD
DESCRIPTION:Rienzi\, Wagner’s third opera\, was once his greatest success. The story of the Roman tribune combines rise and fall\, private tragedy and public vision. The original score is considered lost. This rarely performed work serves as a link between Grand Opéra and music drama\, with orchestral power and emotional depth. The performance in Bayreuth is a unique opportunity to rediscover Wagner’s early triumph – where it has never been heard before. \nFor the third consecutive year\, WSNY continues bringing Bayreuth premieres to our members as an HD cinema experience. \nTickets will be available to Members Only in August 2026. \nThe screening will take place over two nights (Monday 15 September and Tuesday 16 September) and shown in two parts.
