Singers Funds

Supporting the Next Generation of Wagnerian Singers

The Singers Awards and Grants, presented by the Wagner Society of New York, play a crucial role in nurturing the next generation of Wagnerian talent. These prestigious awards offer not only financial support but also vital recognition to young singers pursuing careers in opera, particularly in the complex and demanding repertoire of Richard Wagner. The generosity of our members (and those who include the Society in their estate plans) helps these promising artists access the education, coaching, and performance opportunities needed to refine their craft.
In addition to financial assistance, the Singers Awards and Grants bring invaluable exposure to young artists, connecting them with a network of seasoned professionals, mentors, and supporters in the opera world. The Wagner Society of New York’s commitment to fostering new talent ensures that the rich tradition of Wagnerian opera continues to thrive, and that future generations of audiences will experience the power and beauty of Wagner’s music through fresh, exceptional voices.

Our Endowed Funds

The Wagner Society gratefully acknowledges those who established funds to benefit singers in their name, and those who continue to support and honor them with additional contributions.

Robert Lauch Memorial Endowment Fund

This fund recognizes long-time Society Member Robert Lauch († 1993), who held a special interest in developing Wagnerian singers. Established in 1993 by the family of Mr. Lauch and supplemented by a matching-donation program, it now holds over $200,000 to be used for annual awards recognizing singers of exceptional potential. Earmarked contributions to this Fund are still gratefully accepted.

Ursula Springer Endowment Fund

This fund, established in 2004 by long-time Society member Dr. Ursula Springer (1922-2014), has over $80,000 in assets and is used to fund an award at our annual Singers Competition.

The Fund for Singers

In March 2025 a new Fund for Singers was established for the purpose of funding awards to vocal artists believed to have potential for singing the Wagnerian repertoire. Earmarked contributions to this Fund are gratefully accepted. Donations in any amount are very much appreciated, and larger donations such as $5,000+ will greatly help to achieve the Society’s goal of supporting this permanent fund that can generate annual income to meaningfully increase the amount available for annual awards.

Contribute to the Future of Wagnerian Singing

Your generosity counts: supplemental donations during your membership renewal and earmarked donations throughout the year are added to the WSNY Fund for Singers. If you’re considering a legacy in your own name or in acknowledgement of the wishes of someone else, we look forward to discussing establishment of an enduring gift.
